BackForest Honey Bee Farm: Maintaining The Forest Potentials

Another cultivation program is forest honey bee farming in the Lematang Block operational area, specifically in Sumaja Makmur Village, Muara Enim. This program began in 2016 by utilizing Apis Cerana bees, which collect nectar from Acacia flowers in plantation areas. However, plantation rejuvenation efforts in South Sumatra, which replaced Acacia plants with Eucalyptus trees, threatened the existence of forest honey bees. The Company took the initiative to plant Xanthostemon trees as a replacement for Acacia’s function as a source of nectar and pollen within biodiversity areas. This farming initiative transformed into Taman Madu Rakyat (TAMARA), which also serves as a Xanthostemon flower tourism destination, a learning center for honey bee farming, and a marketplace for honey sales. These parks are located in Lais Village, Musi Banyuasin, and Trijaya Village, Musi Rawas. A similar program has also been implemented in the Tarakan Block operational area.
